We are looking for a skilled, resourceful, and collaborative Geotechnical Project Engineer to join our team in the Burlington, VT office. The Geotechnical Project Engineer will work closely with a team of staff engineers and scientists on challenging and exciting projects focused in Vermont and throughout New England. This is a great opportunity to work on exciting and fulfilling projects while living in the Green Mountain State which offers many outdoor recreational activities in beautiful surroundings. The assigned projects will be technically challenging and provide the candidate professional growth.

Essential Functions – What You Will Do

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • Assist with project management tasks, including developing proposals and budgets, attending project meetings, and utilizing geotechnical software.
  • Coordinate and perform field investigation programs including test borings, cone penetration testing (CPT), and in-situ testing.
  • Collect, interpret, and analyze field and laboratory data, performing laboratory analysis for soil classification, consolidation testing, and strength parameters.
  • Prepare reports, design plans, cost estimates, specifications, and geotechnical design calculations.
  • Formulate preliminary conclusions, recommendations, and strategies to address subsurface conditions, environmental or geotechnical site issues, and perform risk assessment.
  • Provide construction oversight and quality assurance for foundation installations, retaining walls, and earthwork operations.

Competencies – What We Are Looking For

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering or related industries.
  • A master’s degree in civil engineering (with a geotechnical focus) and a professional licensure (PE) or ability to obtain licensure is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, including client presentations and technical report writing.
  • A strong attention to detail and technical understanding is required.
  • Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience in deep foundations (driven/drilled foundations, micropiles, ground improvement, grouting and support-of-excavation) for both private and public clients.
  • Previous slope stability evaluation and analysis experience using industry-standard software such as SLIDE is also a plus.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
