We are looking for an experienced civil engineer and solid waste professional with strong business ties to join our Solid Waste team as a Project Manager. The Project Manager will drive growth in our solid waste engineering practice while managing complex landfill design, permitting, and compliance projects. This key leadership position can lead to firm ownership for the right individual. This is a fast-paced and dynamic position, with opportunities to be challenged, contribute to project outcomes, interact routinely with project Principals, and grow professionally.

Essential Functions-What You Will Do

  • Lead and manage municipal solid waste (MSW) facility design projects, including landfills, transfer stations, and material recovery facilities (MRFs).
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports prepared by project team.
  • Oversee quality control and technical review of permit applications and compliance documentation for state and federal regulations (RCRA Subtitle D).
  • Review and validate engineering calculations and analyses for landfill capacity, stability analysis, leachate collection systems, and gas collection systems.
  • Serve as an Engineer-of-Record.
  • Manage projects both financially and technically.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers and environmental scientists.
  • Develop proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Build and maintain client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.

Competencies-What We Are Looking For

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  • 8-10 years of progressive experience in solid waste engineering and facility design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; multiple state registrations preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in municipal solid waste (MSW) facility permitting, design, construction, and operations.
  • Proven experience with:
    • Subtitle D landfill design
    • Leachate collection and treatment systems
    • Landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS)
    • Geosynthetic liner systems
    • Slope stability analysis
    • Stormwater management
    • Construction Quality Assurance (CQA)
  • Familiarity with waste processing facilities including transfer stations, MRFs, and composting operations.
  • Strong organizational, supervisory, mentoring, and time management skills combined with the flexibility to work with shifting priorities.
  • Client-service orientation with the ability to anticipate needs and deliver to meet expectations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative team player with strong leadership abilities.
